Alpaca Farms Maine
What does "Simply Different by Design" mean? It primarily refers to how John and I run our alpaca farm and do business. Our approach to raising and selling alpacas is a bit different than many breeder. And that is OK. We are generally very accepting and respectful of other philosophies even though we may choose to run our business differently.
Below are some points that make us “Simply Different by Design”
Our foremost loyalty remains to the well
being and advancement of the alpaca itself.
We choose a quiet, conservative approach to marketing.
Our approach to running a successful alpaca business is simple; first, become and remain educated on all aspects of alpacas; second, produce alpacas that are above average—by doing so you will meet or exceed the market’s needs. Third, treat your clients with respect, integrity and honesty.
FFAF is a breeding facility as opposed to a wholesale dealership. We purchase alpacas to incorporate into our breeding program; not to turn over for a quick buck.
We are very proud of our breeding program and constantly strive to improve it every day. We believe the progeny speaks for itself.
We do not maintain a formal farm store on site. That being said, we have Maine mills process rovings and specialty yarns from the fiber produced on our farm that we sell during public events throughout the year. We feel this clearly demonstrates the value and usefulness of American alpaca fiber and contributes toward attaining sustainable agricultural farming in the United States.
Our alpacas are priced fairly and accurately. Our prices directly reflect the production value we find in each of our animals.
FFAF is proud to be a successful modest sized farm. We are a small farm by choice and have every intention of remaining that way.
When perspective buyers visit our farm to learn and/or shop for alpacas we openly critique our animals. We honestly do not find this threatening because all alpacas have flaws—some maybe more pronounced than others but they all have them so why not acknowledge them?
We believe strongly in educating the general public about alpacas simply because if alpaca breeders don’t do it who will?
Occasionally we receive a question that we do not know the answer to. In our opinion being honest and admitting we do not know is better serving our client than providing information that is inaccurate.
Education/Knowledge is the key to success when raising alpacas. Our mission at FFAF is to educate our clients so they will be able to make intelligent, informed decisions on purchases and breeding decisions.
